Cakes

"Chocolate Cake" (2018)
Acrylic on cardboard
Tayo's most unconventional series of food art is his "cake" series. It is where he has taken an empty cake box, taped the lid and sides down, and apply large amounts of acrylic paint (icing) to it and leave it to dry. Tayo developed this idea from looking at the cake paintings of Wayne Thiebaud (who has been his primary influence for sometime). Sometimes, our eyes can trick us, (especially if we are hungry) and on first glance, Tayo's boxes look like actual cakes, until you get closer to them.
